Small businesses already have a tough time when it comes to competing with box stores and international brands. BIPOC businesses are no exception, and since many members of the BIPOC community also struggle to get started due to lending practices that are adversarial toward them, the challenge of getting noticed by consumers can be even greater.
As members of Moms Against Racism, it’s important that, whenever possible, we align our spending practices with our values because consumer dollars say a lot about what the public is paying attention to. The more successful small businesses are - particularly those owned by minority members of the community - the more likely they will be able to expand and the more likely banks will be to adjust their lending policies in the future.
Of course, as a busy mom, you might not have a lot of time to investigate each company or brand before you buy, so we’ve put together a gift-giving guide for this holiday season! Over the next few days, you’ll find products for just about any price range and interest on your list!
If you have lots of shopping to do and don’t think you’ll qualify for discounted shipping on the various websites, yet still want to align your spending with your values, you can click on the Amazon links to add items to your cart and take advantage of whatever shipping rates Amazon has to offer. As a nice little bonus, the writer of the blog (who is paid an affiliate commission by Amazon) has agreed to donate the commission to Moms Against Racism. Win for you, Win for the BIPOC owned business, Win for MAR!
So, what are you waiting for? Start shopping!
